Dreamy Dancing for a Special Cause

Hello everyone,

Today we would like to tell you about August 28th, 2013, a very important date. As many of you may already know, 50 years previously marked the day that Dr. Martin Luthor King, Jr. gave his infamous "I Have A Dream" Speech. In order to honor this event, the organization "Dance the Dream" organized a series of flash mobs around the world's major cities, such as New York, Paris, Cape Town, and London. This week, one of the producers of the organization asked our very own Roger Lee, Artistic Director of Roger Lee Dance, to lead a flash mob in Philly. Roger was very excited with this opportunity and created the Philly Dance The Dream Jam, which took place on the 50th anniversary of the Dr. King's speech at our PACK studios in Philadelphia (the original location was the People's Plaza, the monument that honored the First Amendment, but because of rain the event was taken indoors). The event, which started at 6pm, started off with a beginner level dance instruction and was followed by much celebration, music, fellowship, and reflection. The event was a success, to say the least. Roger was honored to host this special event that marked this important date not only to look back to see how much we have progressed but also to reflect on what needs to improve for the future. He asks Philadelphia and the world the question "are we still dreaming" so as to reflect on the work that needs to be done to achieve complete racial equality. To hear more about the event and his thoughts on the matter, read his article on the Philly Dance Journal here.

Last but not least, if you haven't done so yet, don't forget to purchase your ticket for "The Fall", which premieres NEXT WEEK! Click here to guarantee your ticket today.

Check out a section of our press release for the show:

"PHILADELPHIA, PA – Roger Lee Dance's third concert series “The Fall” runs September 6th through 8th with three performances at The Performance Garage in Philadelphia, PA. The performances combine contemporary jazz dance with soulful music to create a memorable, uplifting, and entertaining experience for the entire family.
This fall Roger Lee Dance introduces an all-new company of dancers, new music by resident music composer Danny Horowitz, a special guest performance by Introspective Movement Project, and four new works by founder, artistic director, and choreographer Roger Lee.
The concert opens with Diary of a Dance Company, a stylized jazz piece featuring 8 dancers and lots of partnering. Next is the concert title piece, The Fall. The piece opens with a women's section performed to original music by resident music composer Danny Horowitz. It ends with a rhythmic group piece performed to haunting music.
After a 10-minute intermission complete with concessions and company t-shirts, the second act opens with Trinity. The three-section piece explores Praise, Faith, and Prayer through the lens of dance and music. The first section trio and second section quartet are choreographed by Lee. The third section on prayer is choreographed by Sonia James Pennington and performed by her new company Introspective Movement Project. The concert finale is Radioplay, an energetic group piece combining elements of hip-hop, African, jazz, contemporary dance, and popular music. Each concert ends with an engaging Q&A session with the company."

Also, a reminder that this Saturday we will be having our adult beginner dance class, from 2-3pm, at the PACK studios. For more info, click here.

Thank you and have a great rest of your week!
Roger Lee Dance
